On Friday, 23rd March, Chettinad Sarvalokaa Eduaction held the Student Led Conference where the students explained their progress toward and mastery of both academic (content/skill) and character (habits of work) learning targets. They justified their progress by leading their families through a portfolio of assignments culled from academic classes. The parents were taken for a class tour by the students to show their work in their own class as well in the specialist classrooms. Students learnt to take ownership for their progress as they explained areas of strength and areas in need of improvement by leading the conference about their academic progress. The purpose of the SLC was to hone student leadership, verbal communication and critical thinking skills and to build open relationships with families concerning student progress. It was a great opportunity to connect with the parents and bring them in the teaching learning program/strategy for their child/ren as parents are exposed to materials and activities that students engaged in during the school day and to provide a platform where students, parents, and the teacher all become active participants in the conference.
